While no information about a fifth game in the series has been revealed, it is likely that the success of Legendary Edition will lead to the development of another game down the road. While Mass Effect: Andromeda was released in 2017 as a follow-up to the original trilogy, the game was criticized for its technical issues and story. With the success of Mass Effect Legendary Edition, some fans are now interested in seeing BioWare create Mass Effect 4. This means that pulling an old mod into Legendary Edition requires a modder to completely recreate the mod, which does not require permission from the original creator. The creator made a post to their website's blog in which they explain that they had approached Nexus Mods regarding concerns about their mods being recreated by other modders in the remastered trilogy. Due to the fact that the Mass Effect trilogy has been substantially altered for the remaster, mods created for the original versions of the three games cannot be simply carried into the new versions. However, the trilogy's re-release hasn't been praised by all Mass Effect players. Prominent Mass Effect modder Giftfish, creator of popular mods such as ThaneMOD and ME3Recalibrated, has removed all of their work from Nexus Mods after the revelation that fellow modders could recreate their work in Mass Effect Legendary Edition. The first installment's combat was considered to be slower and less intense than its two successors', so BioWare made some changes in order to bring all three titles onto the same level.
